Is it a 351W HO?

Does the presence of an EFE valve mean my '84 351W was HO? The valve I'm talking about is located on intake manifold, driver's side, right next to the carb.

How else is a HO 351W different than a non-HO ?

I'm replacing the intake manifold w/ an Edelbrock, and since I have an Edelbrock carb. I can't see why I'd bother getting a manifold that accomodates the EFE valve... Am I off-base here?

TIA!

Are you talking about the little piece beside the carb that that has two metal lines coming out of it which go to the carb? if so my 77 had thjat and so did my 81, although I do not know much about HO's

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing... The one I'm referring to has a cover plate, two bolts, and an arm that used to attach to a dashpot on the carb. I assumed this was the EFE valve 'cause when I looked at the pictures of the two Edlebrock intake manifolds the only difference I could see was that the HO version had the ability to accomodate this 'device' and the other didn't. I assumed that I was looking at the EFE valve, but I could easily be wrong - I'm a total newbie at this stuff!

351H.O. uses a holley 4bbl carb, and the air cleaner will say 5.8 H.O. on it.

I think you're talking about an EGR valve not an EFE valve.

Nope. :-) I'm a newbie - but I know my EGR valve hangs off the back side of the carb.

I think what he is refering to is compenent of the EGR system. It is a vaccum controled valve that allows exhaust gas into the bottom of the intake. It drops into the sides of the intake, and opens and closes the egr port into the heads.

Im running the stock H.O. intake on my truck, before I put it together, I took some epoxy, and plugged up the holes, and got rid of the egr.
My suggestion is just buy the performer rpm intake, and not worry about the egr junk.

Ok - I think I'm beginning to understand now. Thanks red_rocket!

I did end up ordering the Performer intake, but I also ordered the 4V EGR adapter plate. You're saying I can probably live without it, right?

So what the heck is the Early Fuel Evaporation (EFE) valve that Edelbrock refers to on HO 351W's ?

From the Edelbrock web page on the 3783 manifold:

"Performer 351-W #3783 includes provision for EFE valve on H.O. engines."

I know what you are talking about, my brother in laws 85 bronco has a efe valve, we bought the intake that keeps it, if we did it again we would probably pull it. I recomend the performer. (I did the performer on my 64 fairlane, lots of tourque)

Is it a 351W HO?

This is a compendium of the information I have available on Ford small
block intake manifolds.

There are five series of small block Ford intake manifolds:

8.206" deck Windsor - 221, 255, 260, 289, 302
8.206" deck Cleveland - BOSS 302
9.2" deck Cleveland - 351C-4V, 351C-2V, BOSS 351, 351HO
note: the 1993 "BOSS 351" crate motor is a *Windsor*,
not a Cleveland. Those yoyos at Ford...
9.506" deck Windsor - 351W
10.3" deck Cleveland - 351M, 400

There are also 9.2" Windsors and 9.5" Clevelands if you assemble various
SVO parts as recommended in the Motorsport catalog, but no complete
engines were ever shipped that way. B&A Ford Performance made dual
and single plane intakes to mate 9.5" Clevelands using 351W blocks and
351C heads.

I would say you can probably get away without the EGR.

My truck starts and runs fine at -20 in the winter, just a single pump of the trottle, and it starts right up.
