Just got a few questions here. I'm a newb to Excursions and Ford products in general. I am aware of some of the issues with the 6.0 though. Why does everyone pull the cab / body to do the work ? Is it easier ? A friend of mine had a 6.0 in his shop and did the head gaskets/ EGR delete without doing it, I guess he pulled the whole HVAC unit out and was able to do it.
Also , if you have a 6.0 that went bad would it be better to think of other options instead of fixing the 6.0 ? Or do those mods make them bullet proof ? Before I purchased my X (V10), I did a bunch of research and the Cummins conversion seemed like the way to go if you could do the work yourself. I think driving a truck there and picking it up completed is something like $10k though so I'm sure that was more than fixing the 6.0.

The Cummins option is a viable alternative. It's a little pricey but a good swap.
When the issues are taken care of in the 6.0 it is supposed to be better than the 7.3. Even with the problems I never would have gotten the V-10. But, your an Ex owner do enjoy. The body comes of easily to get complete access to every part of the engine which is great for even doin the pm work that you should do, ie water pump and rad hoses. Hope this helps

I did it before mine blew. I love the peace of mind......though somewhat expensive.

Only $150 and an hour to install. It's going to happen soon. Plus a 1micron aux filter for oil.

Thanks for the reply. Having driven a diesel (both car and truck) for the last 12 years it was a hard pill to swallow going with the V10. But since we will use the vehicle less than 10k miles a year I just couldn't see spending another $8-10k for a clean lower mileage (if you can find one) 7.3, I was just plan scared off of the 6.0
