sealed power main bearing grooves

My 1998 Romeo 4.6 rebuild has been one surprise after another. First the rear main seal has a "slinger" preventing it from being replaced painlessly but more importantly, my new Sealed Power main bearings are ALMOST the same as the bearings coming out. My old ones are grooved on top and ungrooved on bottom, The new ones are fully grooved on top except for one which is grooved only 90 of the 180 degrees of top bearing. Anybody know why?
Also got three thrust bearing halves and dont know what to make of the tabs on the thrust bearings.
I'm committed now so please help if you can

I'm replacing both actually but the slinger issue i can deal with. Remove, replace. The bearing has me scratching my head though. (see pics)

Take it that the old bearing has oil full groove both top and bottom??

If that is the correct bearing...then it must be directional, meaning the top oil groove must go with a certain direction in relationship to the rotation of crankshaft.

did the parts store, on line, or brick and mortar offer any tech advice?

is the crankshaft journal where this bearing would live, scared, or shows signs of ware?

directional?

The old bearing is grooved top only, No tech advice yet but i can try to call fed mogul i suppose, The crank journals show only minimal signs of wear and still mic in serviceable life. which direction?

yes I would definitely be chatting with the manufacture or a engine builder

direction... is pertaining to which side of the block should this "half groove" will point to the right or the left? ( where its going to live when this engine is running)

all a mute point IF this is the wrong bearing... or....If the bearings can only go in , or install, 1 way into the block. Look for locator tabs on the bearings and receiving areas for these tabs in the block.

Yep. They only go in one way. The only question remaining is-which block. Assuming this is the right part. Thanks.

Crap!! I think maybe I mis-ordered and have a Windsor set of bearings. Still doesn't explain three thrust bearing halves but I suppose the guys at Fed Mogul will let me know tomorrow. Glad I didn't "oh well" this thing. Dammit!!

Update. I was right, the Windsor set does not have a flanged #5 block main bearing and also has a forward torque spacer not in the Romeo engines. A new set of bearings and all is good!!
