Swap from power to manual brakes

Swap from power to manual brakes
I have a question about brakes on a 1979 F-100 2wd. I want to swap the power brakes for manual brakes and was wondering what needs to be changed other than the m/c? I read on another thread here that the proportioning valve is the same.
Thanks for any help

I did the swap and used a mid 80s Ford Ranger aluminum manual master cylinder. The pushrod needs to be shortened, but it wasn't a big deal. You'll need new lines from the m/c to the PV as well.
No real difference in stopping versus the power brakes. Swapping to the hydroboost was a huge difference though.

I don`t know about the trucks, but on many Ford cars the brake pedal is different, to obtain more leverage. When I converted my 85 Mustang drag car from power to manual brakes (using all the parts from an origional manual brake 80 Mustang), not only was the pedal different where the master cylinder pushrod attatches, but the upper pivot bolt in the pedal bracket used a different location.

Believe it or not, I did this swap on my '79 Ford. The reason was when I switched my chassis to the 4x4 frame, it had power brakes, but my cab didn't. I only had half the parts for power brakes, but I had ALL the parts for manual. The proportioning valve is the same. The master and push rod are different. I'm pretty sure the pedal assembly is the same.

I dont know about the F trucks
but on 83 Ranger the pedal is different. The fulcrum/pivot is in a different spot, so that you'll get more leverage with the manual brake pedal, and the cylinder mounts at a slightly different height on firewall.
It's mentioned in the Ford service manual that pedal pressure will be excessive if one simply deletes the booster.
Sure 'nuff, when i got to junkyard the manual brake pedal has "manual" stamped on its side;
furthermore the bracket that bolts m'cylinder to firewall is different - might be it's reversible and just installed upside-down i cant quite remember that.
It's important enough to look before you leap , i think.
Maybe parts store can see if brake pedals for your year have different part# manual vs power..

You need to get together with this guy: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...rake-help.html
Hes doing the opposite of what your doing, maybe you can swap out pedals etc.
