I like my XL's, not flashy at all, but tough. Not to mention the fact I can't afford a 40k truck.

My XLT has all that. Just add the "Off Road" package to get the skid plates.

You're spot on about being able to option up an XL with goodies. The XL can be made with all the important stuff that makes a truck useful if you don't mind missing some creature comforts. Before I ordered my truck I did virtual builds starting with XL, XLT, and FX4. By the time I got done optioning up the different trucks, the prices were all pretty close no matter which version I started with. I chose the XLT for better resale value over lower models, and the half-sized floor console that you can't get in FX4.

Horse Doctor is starting off with a positive reputation.
I wanted to get the Ecoboost engine but need a regular cab with 126" wheelbase to fit in my garage. Not available. Does that make sense? Not to me.

I am going to look at a 2012 STX 4x4 with the 5.0 today. They quoted me a good price. I have my 2008 sold separately, but want to see on a trade since it will save me sales tax and they are offering an addition $750 rebate if you trade in.

I would have loved an FX4 with HD payload and 3rd front seat.
Or an screw STX with EB and HD payload.
Got an XLT in the end, since I could not get one of the two above (I don't like Chrome too much).
