Restoring headlights with Meguires one step restoration kit

The lights on my truck were really yellow and oxidized so i bought a meguires one step headlight renewal kit to try. It came with the buffer for a drill, a bottle of plastX and a rag for buffing. I tried it out and the lights look alot better but will it last? have you tried it? how long will it take before they are cloudy again?

I bought a bottle of a similar product from the dollar store in town here that you just put on a rag and wipe on the light covers. It was like 3 dollars for an 12 oz bottle of it, and it only takes like 1/4 oz to do a light. It works really good but they start to re-yellow again in about 6 months. Which isn't too bad I don't think. Meguires makes really good products so I would guess it will be just as good if not better than my 3 dollar bottle.

Great product. I used it too but without a sealant they will be yellow again soon
Go do a search on google for auto geek and headlight restoration a guy there did a great write up on this. He sealed it with some mix of urethane. Cheap easy and it lasts

Better lights

My 90 f250 lights were dull and foggy in 2009 I WET sanded them with 1500 grit wet or dry sandpaper ... It took about 10 min. per side. Then washed them with lots of windex, then masked around them with blue tape. Cleaned the surfaces to be treated with lacquer thinner and a clean rag for each side. then sprayed with light-thin coats of clear lacquer (rattle can) until completely covered then let it dry completely. ... That lasted 2+ years then repeat as needed !!! Side note I run 9004 Sylvania Ultras with no problems Just my $.02 worth Dave

After you polish your lights you will need to keep them sealed or they will yellow again quickly. Keeping a simple coat of wax on them will take care of it.

I used mothers kit and it came with sandpoaper and everything. I then polished them with the buffer and polish that came with the kit and they look amazing but as someone above noted if you can't seal them with something that will protect them from the sunlight they will re-yellow.

Anybody know if you can buy just the lens piece? I see lmc has some replacements but they are the whole assembly. I'd like to find just the lens if possible. If not I'll try the cleaning/sealing route.

Here's an interesting read from another forum that I am on. It seems that they like the clear coat idea too.
