Cetane Booster

Wanted to check and see how many guys are using this for the new 6.7 I called my dealer yesterday and they told me its not really needed for the new truck. They put me thru to the parts counter and the guy there said they have not sold any but could get it in. But after doing some reading on the net a lot of people are saying that it's a good ideal to use it.

If your using it what is a good brand to use or it all the same

Thanks for your input
Tom

One good way to save your Bosch fuel pump is to use cetane boost in the fuel, in the long run it could save you $10k down the road because warranty will not cover it if it goes out because Ford has this thing about saying you had water in the fuel.

I have been using Opti-lube XPD but may switch to summer during the warmer weather. Little cheaper.

I've been using the Ford PM 22-A addative. Is there a noticable difference to the Optilube or other brands over Ford or just a matter of preference and/or price?

In my first tank of fuel (new truck owner), I used PM-22-A from Motorcraft. I noted that PM-23-A Motorcraft Diesel Anti Gel is the same price.
  • Does PM-23 provide the same lubricity as PM-22-A?
  • Is there any harm using PM-23-A in warm weather when fuel Gel is not an issue?

I used optilube in my 06 that I just traded off. Had the egr valve go out twice in 9 months using the opti lube.
Plus they always said my oil looked really bad even at 4000 miles.

In the 2012 I've been using motorcrafts pm-22 and no issues in almost 3,000 miles but it's too early to tell.

I have used both. I switched after reading the Spicer test which compared the additives. Other than using bio-diesel Opti-lube was at the top for lubrication. Ford's was not in the study but considering that most of the other most frequently used additives were about 8th or lower on the list I am doubting that it would be much better. But that's just my opinion.

I have been using it for over a year now and have had no problems. My oil is dark when I change it, but I would rather have dark oil than a blown HPFP. (Not sure how much you can really tell by just looking at the oil. I have not had an oil test done.)

Something is better than nothing.

I use PM-22A in the summer and PM-23A in the colder months.

Cheap insurance IMO.

My guess would be no, it would be like using winter fuel in summer. You are just getting less performance out of it.

Ford has voided warranty For people using optilube in past. I have always used pm-22 and never had a problem with 6.0 l or my 6.7s.Optilube leaves residue on everthing .

I have been on this site and others for 2 years and have never seen anything like that mentioned before. Where are you getting this information? Kind of like the HPFP threads, we wants FACTS!

I am interested to hear what you know, but I would like more information than a general statement like that.
