trust me i have towed 23000 with my f250 it towed it great but the pucker factor was big when i was in town. that is why i got the f450.
and yes the trailer was loaded right and made to tow that much, and the dot would have been ok with it as no tire or axle was over loaded, but not a wise thing to do.

Road legalities aside, I will say if you need to move something that heavy only once or twice, for a short distance, at a VERY low speed, the truck will do it. If you're talking a big car trailer, toy hauler, etc and plan on highway speeds, you need a much bigger truck. The truck in my sig has pulled 20,000# trailers before, but only around the farm and once when equipment broke down on the road 2 miles from home; in all cases it's a very slow and deliberate job. As far as what's legal, I think the F250/F350s are rated for 18,500 GCWR so a 21k plus load is way too much. I can't imagine any tow vehicle capable of towing 21k that won't weigh more than 5k itself which puts you over the 26k limit (class A IIRC).

As a side note here in Canada the maximum the can be driven (towed) tow vehicle and trailer combined weight is 11.000 kgs 24.000 pounds.. with a standard `g` license anything above that weight requires a FULL class a license. and a cvor and YEARLY safety certification. This does not include coaches/rv/buses (different class and license) if your trailer/toyhauler/ (loaded) and truck is over that...lmao and you get pulled over..it`s going to be costly to hire a certified driver and/or tow company to get your rig off the highway.. after you have been escorted to the nearest weigh scale.....

It'll handle it, but blow a rear tire and you're screwed. Plus if you get pulled over you will get a ticket for being over weight- that's CDL country. I've had 20-22k on my trailer regularly, but that extra set of tires and exhaust brake make it a lot easier and safer. Seen quite a few folks pulling heavy goosenecks and even one idiot with a 3 car trailer on the back of a F-250, some people have more cash thank brains. I do wish I could go F-550 or Class 8 though. I got brains but no cash
