My dealer just sold me the Motorcraft 5 quart oil jugs for our trucks for $19.99ea.

That's a pretty good price, right? I was surprised. Most non Motorcraft oils are 4 quart jugs, right? For an extra $3-5 to get an extra quart isn't bad. Am I right?

Walmart has em for 17 or so. ..and they were great for the 6.4 that took 15 qts. Made it real easy. For the 13qt 6.7 its a pain tho

Ya, 13 is odd.

I bought oreilly brand oil last time, it was $14.99 for 4 quarts. $19.99 for 5 of the "brand name" oil seems good to me.

Ya, the oreilly oil is shell. I don't know who supplies ford. I'm not all that concerned about it, I just thought the price was better than I expected.

Guys - forgive my ignorance (first deisel)but I understand that Dino oil has a blend specifically for deisels and you must use that; is synthetic the same?? I simply don't know. I did a LOT of reading on this topic before I switched to synthetic for my excursion. There is a LOT of difference between Dino and synthetic at temperatures other than operating temp. You can read an make your own decisions should you desire.

Also - as for the Extended service plan...are you saying that covers ALL routine and non-routine maintenance?? if so, that may bee a HUGE deal.

I got 4 free oil changes coming from my dealer so that should give me more gas money for the next year or two . On my 6.0 it ran me $78 for syn oil + motorcraft filter.

That's nice. 4 free ones is a major bonus. I only got one. If I get 10 changes at the dealer I get $50 off the next one. That's not worth my time trying to keep up with that little card they punch.

I do it myself now. It's fun.

I was reading some where that it's an equation between idle hours, engine hours and miles. I'm gonna try to find it. It would be useful for everyone in being able to predict before going on a road trip.

Idle time affects maintenance schedule

Written back in the 6.0L days but probably still applicable.

That about answers that.

It's comical how Ford can release a document such as this and the turn around and sell a maintenance plan that is solely based on miles driven as the plan I have is. Not concerning as I purchased the severe duty schedule and my hours/miles ratio is no where near their 200 hours or 5,000 mile limit. But Ford is very contradicting in many cases.
