Well now!! I just finished watching the video. Based on that and everyones recommendation, no question, I'm changing out the filter and cap as soon as I get days off. I've also decided to return the Wix fuel filters I bought from Amazon and buy Motorcraft brand. What about the air filter? Am I at least safe with that one?

Ok guys, I bought a Motorcraft cap and changed the oil filter today. One thing I noticed right off the bat was to get the cap to thread in, I actually had to push the cap down, compressing the spring, before the threads would engage. I'd never had to force the cap down against spring pressure with the other caps. I didn't start the truck yet, but, I've got to drive out near Boston tomorrow. I'll report my driving impressions when I get home.

I also bought a set of Motorcraft fuel filters from Advance Auto Parts today ($just under $50.00). I'm pulling the hfcm on Thursday.

Gotta love the part stores!

I have one part store I use if not I go to the dealer.

Levien auto parts, there's only one guy I deal with there and he will honestly bend over backwards to help me out and get the right part the first time.

Other guys won't even bother looking past the computer into the books to confirm proper fitment for the right vehicle, it sucks he's retiring in 2 weeks.

Use your OEM cap and do not use wix filters. You don't want to have HPO problems for using the wrong stuff

Fram CH9549 or motorcraft oil filters

No. Get the Donaldson air filter with the blue media. If you don't live in a dusty climate these filters will last 50k+ miles. Good thing because they're kind of a pain in the a$$ to change.

Huh? Changing the air filter is about a 3 minute process.

Take the line off the degas bottle, pull the filter minder out of the rear cover, loosen the hose clamp on the filter cover to intake tube joint, pop that loose and rotate the entire assembly forward and up. It takes all of 45 seconds to take the intake out. Unsnap the old filter, snap in the new one, and back in. Changing the filter with the covers in the truck is just making things harder on yourself.

I do that. Mine has always been a huge pain to unsnap from the mounts. I should put some vaseline or something on it next time I change it.

Just got back. Truck seems to run a little smoother and has a little more power. I feel a lot better about changing out the filter and cap.

Gonna have to wait on the fuel filters though. Didn't get a chance to get the tools today.
