Hello Everyone,

I have found a 1961 f100 uni with a 6cyl 3 on the tree 2wd for 3500. The truck looks nice and seems to have many new parts. is there anything I should know while looking? I have never seen a uni before but am starting to like them more and more. also, are the bed floors wood?

bed floor should be steel and look for rust in the cab area

 

Make sure and check cab floors and mounts, notorious for rust.

Glad to hear it Marc. Like the guys above said, rust is the major deal. If it has good bones you can do anything. Get yourself underneath it and look around the floors and rear of the cab especially.
Take a screwdriver with you. If you can poke it through any metal you are going to need welding and fab skills to fix it.
Surface rust is no sweat.

If you have a rusted out bed I would suspect the torque box is pretty much gone as well.

 

Typical places to find rust are:
Front cab support-crawl underneath and look where the bolt comes down through the floor and attaches to the pad on the frame. The stamped tapered box is the front cab support.
Torque Box- Look at the floor behind the seat bottom of the gas tank area. This is the front of the "TB". Look under the truck at the front of the bed area. This is the bottom of the "TB". Poke and bang around the bottom of the "TB". Soft spots and muffler rattle noise indicates rust.
Door pillar: Open the doors look where the botom hinges go into the cab.
Radiator Core Support: Look where the frame bolts go through on sides of the radiator, where the bottom of the grill attaches, and inside front of wheel wells
Cab cap seam/drip rails
Bottom corners of windshield
Hood leading edge

Thanks for the help. I know that the front of the bed has some rust but I was thinking I could cut it out and weld in new metal. Any thoughts?

Also, the steps when you open the doors seem to have a few rust holes that look like old problems. I found some weld in parts that I could cut and put it to maintain the look...
