header questions,89 5.8

hello guys, i did a search for this but didn't quite find what i was looking for.

i will have my engine out of my truck here in a couple of months, i want to switch the manifolds to headers, but im unsure if it can be done.

not saying physical it can't be. what im wondering is in the the emmsions, i see emissions tubes running from the manifolds and such. do they make headers that have the holes for the stock system? i am assuming no but thought id ask.

what would need to be done to switch to headers, i would like to do this while the engine is out and easy to put the headers on.

i also would like to know about slight upgrades while the engine is out. i plan to use this as a daily ride/pulling a full 20' equipment trailer on a semi regular basis. i assume upgrade to roller rockers, maybe a cam change would help? i know ive looked this stuff up before, but i can't seem to remember what all i found.

I deleted all the emissions on my 95 5.8 and used some mustang shorties I had. It took a little tapping with a hammer on one side, but worked fine with my custom exhaust.

Pacesetter makes a set of long tube headers with the smog fittings. #70-2221. I have seen them on amazon.com for $250.

I would definitely get long tube headers over shorty headers. I am getting LT's when I replace my cracked manifolds, and redo the entire length of exhaust.

now, for another quick thought. my plan is to have the headers and on and take it to a custom shop and have them make a nice dual exhaust for my truck.

i would like to put in a set of cutouts. does anyone do this on trucks anymore? i know its popular in my f body community and the stangs. pretty much all that kinda thing.

i would like to keep it quiet when im around my neighbors but be able to open it up on say the highway. or am i looking at it all wrong? just get a decen muffler and get the balance there?

Quiet mufflers and full tail pipes with the cutouts before mufflers makes for a mild to wild type change when you flip the switch. Definitely fun.

hey, thanks for your thoughts. i was planning on putting in a decent muffler and the cutouts. its either that or just say to hell with it and with just glasspacks. i sometimes miss how simple my 85 chevy was, no cat, dual straight pipes to behind the cab and glass packs. that old 350 had some bark at times. just bought a kit for it and called it good, now if only it was that simple for this truck.
