I forget the two transfer cases used - BW1345 and an NP variant, I think.
NP208. And, this is one of the rare areas where Ford allows mix & match.

okay thank you very much. oh and i am not sure if this means anything but does anybody know why people use the np205 transfer cases? are they just heavier duty?

You don't like research, do you? Here's the first link that showed up when I started typing "np208 vs NP205". Got "np208 vs np2" typed in and Google filled in the rest. Sure is easy to answer questions like that. (Hint, hint)

The 205, and I think the 203, are gear driven vs chain driven. So yes, more heavy duty.

ok on the ford truck of that era the only thing you have to change when your going from a tremc to a t 18 or np is you take out the crossmemeber and youll see the bulge in the memeber all you do is flip it make the bulge face wawy from the motor everything else is the same the same output splines the same input splines speedo cable is the same the reverse light looks up the same im currently in the process from going from a t18 to a tremac rts ita the same procees but only reversed i figured with 800,000 miles on a that t18 its time to upgrade and com into the the club with overdrive
