I priced every option when considering new heads and studs.Looked at new, newer used, cummins conversion etc...And it made more economical sense to keep the 6.0..I have the King Ranch, and the Leather ranch theme just fits me, (love the saddle smell) all the gadgets I could want plus a compliment of aux, gauges, lights winches, aux. fuel tank air horn...
Hell this truck is a part of me now....And that turbo whistle just puts a smile on my face. Especially when it is idleing or when I shut off the motor and all you hear is the turbo spooling down......ahhhhhhh..
I can hardly wait to get it back from the shop....
If mine were to grenade tomorrow, I would get a reman from FORD, remove the heads, stud it, probly put a BPD EGR cooler, maybe delete it, put it in and move on with life. I figure even if I had 10k into the engine I would still be money ahead compared to the cost of a new truck. The most I can see happening to my truck after the new turbo and injectors is the heads will have to come off...so what, I'll do it this winter if need be.
As far as the F-150 goes, dont get me wrong its a great truck, I like the 08 I drive everyday and I am super excited about getting a Eco Boost, buth theres just something about the sound of a 6.0 and the smell of diesel in the morning.
I will be keeping the 350 till it rots apart, best work truck I've ever had.The EX has it's place in life as well, the 05 250... that would be the first to go.I do have a growing hate on every time I touch an ICP sensor or pigtail for the jackass that put it under the turbo.
Hi,
Everyone talking about the "Old Timers"
I just got my 2006 F350 4X4 Crew cab Long Bed this last March
It has 145K on it and I really like to drive it. I moved up from
a 2002 Ranger Edge V6 4.0L 4X4 and really missed the bigger truck
and wanted to try diesel. Dealership did a lot of work before they
put it out on the lot. The only down side I see is I no longer fit into
the under parking lots.
I hope to take a short trip this next weekend up Cayuse Pass
to Eastern Washington.
And to the people that are so willing to share there knowledge.
I Must say THANK YOU.
Sean
I still like mine. It's an 07 that I bought new in Sept. of 06.I've got 40,000 on now and haven't had any problems.
I'm a diesel guy though and though but I'm very sad to say...This will be my last diesel.I absolutely love the new diesels,We have them at work now and I drive them everyday, but I can't imagine the out of warranty cost of ownership.I was just over on the 6.7 fourm and there is a very respectable member that has alot of skill and knowledge and he was asking how to flush his coolant. So far it was said just to take it to Ford and have them do it because it's so complicated to do.It's crazy...We can't even change are own coolant anymore.
Getting to my point of this being my last diesel,I'm kinda waiting to see what Ford is gonna do with the 6.2.No F-150 for me...So it's my only choice.I'm hoping Ford will come out with a four valve 6.2 or maybe an Ecoboost 6.2.
For now,Like I said,I'm still enjoying my 6.0 and will be for awhile yet!
Hi,
The parking is about the only thing I miss about that 02 Ranger
Because both trucks are that Blazing Yellow color. Very hard to miss
it in a parking lot. The F350 is the Amarillo Package.
I like it more every time I drive.
Sean
I guess it's "love / hate" to sum it all up Quote from Pilot.....
I am changing my opinion by the day, or should I say by the dollar..Mechanic called today and center section of turbo is shot.. So anouther 900.00....And I figure it will take a week of driving the truck before I forgive it.....lol....
Note to self; Don't ask mechanic to check everything that might be a problem....
got her in August and she only has 13,6xx as of today. already has the lift kit and other "beauty" stuff done now. So now it's just time to pretty up the interior with 08+ stuff and at some point do a 2012 front end upgrade
I've had some nice and badass Fords (2009 Mustang Bullitt, 2006 F-150 w/ RoushCharger) and this truck is my best to date. Unbelievable power and not too shabby of a ride
