Do you have ST tires on your RV ?

Interesting information about ST tires.... note the speed rating - not that you should ever go faster than that with an rv, but margin of safety considerations

here's the full table about all @ goodyear: http://www.goodyearrvtires.com/pdfs/rv_inflation.pdf

After three blowouts in one trip with Carlisle ST tires, you bet. Ocean City MD/Assateague area, couldn't even find the ST in my size. Put 3 LT's on from 3 different dealers. Will replace the 4th & spare before next trip. Also moved up one load range to "E" tires. (14K lb trailer).

My experience with Marathons in the past says when they say 65 they mean 65. Anything over that and they are done for.

Mine are e-rated ST tires. I set the cruise on 65 and that is it.

Yep, mine are Maxxis ST Radials, load range E, set it on 65 and don't look back. According to other forums, the Goodyears are now made in China. Have not witnessed it myself. Just a little heads up.

My marathons are US made, 14" tires. I know that they had recently moved the plant back to the US, the tire guy had to order in a few sets till we got a matched by date US set in. This was two years ago. If you are trying to tow anything, regardless of tire, over 65mph, than you should be removed from the driving population.

After having a blowout, I make sure that I set my cruise on 63 and forget it.

Agree with you here! Was headed back from a NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway. Here we are just south of downtown FT Worth. I had it on 60 and he passed me like I was sitting still. 3 or 4 miles down the road he was pulled off to the side of the road and he had ripped the whole left side off the rig from blown tire. I stopped as I carry a floor jack, and asked how fast he was traveling. He said I always travel the speed limit plus 5. I didn't say anything. Well after the tire change I headed on down the road. 30 miles further, he passed me. I was doing my 65 with my ST tires and the speed limit is 75 in that area and he was everybit over that. Even if he had LT tires, which I think he did, still folks 75 and 80 is still to quick IMO pulling a rig like that, as it was not one of those double axle toy haulers but a triple. But thats my opinion.

You mean LT and ST tires?

LT stands for light truck. Obvious different is the speed rating and flexible sidewall compared to ST.

ST is strickly a trailer tire designed for the extra stresses of turning trailers that have axles that don't turn. ST has a max speed rating of 65 mph.

Actually, the STtire has the thinner sidewall, because of the flex during turning, thus the 65 MPH limit. And under-inflation kills them quick.

I had 3 ST tires blow on one trip and was running 55 max. Went to my local tire dealer and replaced with LT tires. Have had any trouble since.

15" wheels, so 7000 lb trailer riding on 4 USA made, D rated (2540) Marathons and 65 mph tops. All good so far.

No, SD and ST.

When I bought my 28ft 5th wheel from the original owner, it had 225 SD tires on it, which wore out quite quickly. When my tire shop replaced them, they were replaced with 225 ST tires.

I'm curious which are better.
