I love stock restored unmolested old trucks but when I got mine is was literally a pile of junk all dissasembled and scattered all over my mom and dad's farm. It was only a couple days away from the crusher. My dad wanted all the junk taken away. I dragged all the parts I could find along with my own stash of parts I've been saving for years home to my single bay tiny garage in my codominium complex. Needless to say it's not turning out to be a concourse restoration. It would cost a fortune to turn it back to original so I am assembling it with the parts I have and others I can scrounge with a bit of new aftermarket tossed in. It is going to appear normal but under the skin it is a different story. After all, the truck is over sixty years old so it needs updating in the safety and convenience areas. I can guarantee that if I wouldn't have found this site, the old ford and all these other parts Iv'e been saving for 35 years would in the far east getting melted down into who knows whatever.
And, most of all, this project is providing a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction. I'm really not sure were it fits in if it were to be catagorized, darkside I suppose, but not a rat rod.
This FTE site is a great inspiration, with all my lurking, I have gleaned a ton of information and inspiration: Thanks everyone on here.
I tossed in a few pictures here for you pic lovers, enjoy.
i like to see a cherry old truck restored back like it was .i also love to see any old hulk saved,by replacing rusted roofs and floors.even hacking two or three up to make one good one. some must die to save others.mine needs the stock look on the outside and 1970s nascar type running gear.a sleeper i guess.save the gm motors for a gm project.i like them hot blooded and power by henry. he is my hero
Well I've owned 2 Fords in my life, Both are F1's. I've owned over 10 GM cars and trucks... I love the bodies of the Bonus Built trucks and ofder Fords... Not a big fan of the newer fords except first gen Broncos, Mustangs and the AC Cobras... Not a large fan of Chevy's older then '55.
I'm into the hotrod look, as you may be able to tell
If it wasnt for the "DARKSIDE" most of these old trucks would never see the road again, there just isnt enuff of the needed stuff to keep them going anymore.
I really like both totally stock and modified, and i really like to drive my vehicles too, hence my leaning heavily towards the darkside. John
In the '50's / early '60's, you would have found people stuffing Olds or Caddy V8's, also the older hemi's, into these and just about everything else. No one seemed to care about "Ford in a Ford" back then, and there were plenty of those engines going into Stovebolt 6 cars/trucks, too.
On the Porsche 944 forum I frequent, it's the same story... people are shoving LSx engines into those. If you think people here get upset about Chevy engines in a Ford, you wouldn't believe the reactions there! Even tho the LSx engines weigh less than a turbo 4-banger, cost less, and put out 2x the power, it is sacrilege of the highest order amongst people who pay $5 for the "correct" German hose clamp.
I really don't care what anyone else thinks about what I do to my truck. I certainly don't feel the need to justify having a Chevy motor in my Ford, even though the PO put it in it. . My truck has an MII front end with GM calipers (TCI), an Explorer rear end with disc brakes, and all kinds of non stock other items like steering, brake lines, master cylinder, seats, gauges, wiring, etc. To me, these things just make sense - having a modernized beautiful old F1 that I can enjoy and drive everyday (when I finally get it done)... If it had come without an engine then I would have gotten a Ford, but I don't have a problem with the Chevy 350 that is in it now.
To each his own is my motto, and to me they all look great. I still feel like I have saved a great piece of American history even though it isn't anywhere near stock. In my mind it is still a Ford.
