I'm not 100% sure of when to do the swap. I have been slowly learning and tearing apart the 351 thats in the truck now. Just picked up the fuel line disconnect tool today. Just about everything else is unhooked from the motor. Got to get a hoist lined up and a couple of head to help me get it out and hopefully I can get up to Charlies in the mean time and pick that motor and flexplate up. My goal is by the end of summer to have it running in hopes to be able to use it this fall for hunting. Thats the hope

Probably you would want the gas tank off this truck, it's mechanical, no fuel pump inside. Tank is only a couple of years old, and has a new sending unit in it. You will also need the dsII parts, including wiring harness, and distributor. I'm stripping the truck now, preping for scrap, so if you want, I'll just pull off everything you need.

This truck is the one I built with the high proformance 300. has headers, big cam, ported and polished head, and a 600cfm 4bbl. I want to keep the motor though, because I have over $3,000 in it.

I would think if you were going with DSII ignition vs points you would need a new one anyhow, I actually assumed it was a early 70's, It has an old carter carb. looks to me, don't know whether it can be saved or not. I would definitely go thru the motor just to check things out. Clifford prformance sells some cool stuff for those.

They pretty much all had the carters until 84 1/2.

Not wanting to down Clifford, but since the old man died, they don't have half the products they used to, and customer service is horrible.

I won't go with headers again, too much trouble. I would use the efi exhaust manifolds. I have an extra set of those too.

I think between Charlie's motor, and the parts off my truck, you'll be rolling again.

What's wrong with the 351?

Thanks guys. So here is the story on the 351. Bought the truck dirt cheap knowing it had a knock in the motor. Someone had to the guy it was a rod bearing. but the knock sounded like it was in the topend and not the bottom. Started the truck one day. Kids wanted me to rev it up and "make it loud" ( no exhaust), slowly stepped on the gas and clank clank clank. Motor starts shaking and it sounds it sounds like someone threw a pocket full of change in there. Thinking the crank broke or it threw a rod bearing. Either way she was done.

Sounds like it, I think it'll be cool putting new life in a old motor. You can't get much simpler than these motors. Need to keep a project thread here to see it come thru. BTW what do you hunt?

Deer. Really got back into bow hunting this past year, and did a 3-D shoot this spring. But I still use the rifle and muzzleloader. Gotta keep the freezer full

I have another question. I slipped into autozone while I was on the road working today and picked up a a/c-fuel ling disconnect tool. I also saw right beside it an almost identical tool that said just fuel line disconnect. I got the combo on because it said it fits fords. Been trying off and on all evening and I cant get that darn thing to fit into the connector to break it loose. One of the sizes almost fits but not quite. Am I doing something wrong or did I get the wrong tool?

Make sure the pressure is off the line!

push in on the tool, and push /pull/ wiggle the other side, eventually it will come apart. It's been together a longgggg time!
