If the shaft is moving in and out then it needs to be rebuild.

A little side to side is ok if it doesn't contact the housing

I have a question as well. Do they not make turbo upgrade for the 97 7.3, because I'm not finding anything?

The D66 is a turbo upgrade, a direct bolt on. Other then that you can go with a smaller housing to get a faster spool up at lower RPM's.

and i have a question too. i have a e99 , and my upgrade turbo wise would be the d66 also.
so does this mean that i have the same turbo as what was put in the 94.5 thru 97 trucks ?
if so, i guess i could look for one from those years to use as a back up rebuild then correct ? thanks , chris

The one for the 94.5-97 won't work on the E99. They have different mounting for the exhaust housing

You'll need a d66 for a e99
