Guys that have done the TPS/APS mod

I've been doing some datalogging to see if some of my issues on take off, and kind of a bucking condition when I am feathering the throttle on a washboard road, or coming off idle are related to my APS.

My datalog shows: 76.08 TPS % at 3.78 volts at WOT.

At idle: 10.2 TPS % at 0.51 volts.

Now according to what I have read in the writeup on this forum, and the shop manual WOT should be 4.25-4.5 volts or so.

So for anyone that has done the mod, should I fool with it?

Alright guys.

The mod is done. I'm not gonna say with a certainty that it did much. It certainly feels like it did. I need to do the IVS portion of the mod. Just bending the tang does nothing.

Post numbers WOT: 87% at 4.17 volts

Idle 18% and 0.84 volts.

After all this fooling around I'm gonna heard that dang IVS click everytime I drive my pickup and the throttle spring squeaking lol.

All in all seems to be worth it for the time spent.

I did a version of this mod years ago but instead of indexing the rheostat I just removed the stop rod that the throttle pedal hit at WOT. never checked it with a VO meter but it has more travel.

I also adjusted the idle switch at the same time. Mine used to jump right to 1000 RPM from idle, it was VERY annoying. I kept bending and adjusting the tab so that you just barely had to touch the throttle to hear it click, now the throttle is smooth as silk.

FWIW if you bend the tab to far and don't hear the switch click when pushing the pedal you will have to bend it back. if the IVS switch is open when you start the truck you will get a CEL and the pedal wont work.

back in the day, we called it the hot foot mod.

I did same as diesel rod makes the dead area in the pedal disappeare and throttle is smoother and a little more responsive

Haven't done to WOT mod yet, but I found that for the idle switch, rather than bending the tab, I could loosen the (torx?) screw that holds the switch, and rotate it ever so slightly and tighten it back down, so that it clicks closed a little sooner, which def. removed that dead-pedal feel.

I wondered about that option. So far the APS portion seems to be working good. It is just interesting that the IVS is so critical because it clicks right when I get on the pedal. It still seems a little dead to me though.

More newbie questions. What is this mod and is there a write up I can read? Mine has started doing the bucking thing a little bit when I am feathering the throttle. It just started a few days. It is so subtle that I thought it was me, but it definitely drops off like it has quit running when I barely touching it. It also seems to have gotten stiffer? I definitely want to do this asap!

Careful in what you believe Byron. Too much reading on here and you'll start to believe your truck has every symptom in every thread. Lol.

Great info Glove and Rod.

Yeah, sorry, I was joking about the injectors. Seems to be what people talk about most on here.
