That FRX made a world of difference....

I rebuilt the fuel bowls on my Dad and I's trucks over the weekend. Big thanks to Bob for the o-rings and good instructions. The fuel bowl rebuild was simple! While I was into mine I installed that FRX I got from Clay months ago (I know, I procrastinate...)

The FRX install was a piece of cake with the fuel bowl out of the way. Only way I'd do it again. Fuel sleeves are too cheap not to do it this way. My fuel rail plugs came right out using a 5/16" square drive socket, wobble extension and ratchet. Only the front hose fitting gave me fits. I couldn't get my hands on it enough to thread it onto the fitting in the head. I was trying to do it from the front of the truck and it wasn't happening. Once I tried from the pass side leaning over the AC compressor I was able to thread it right on.

Anyway, the truck is much quieter and smoother. Thanks Clay.

Next on the list is glowplugs, sticks and a turbo (found the seals leak a bit)

Glad it went smooth for you. Once you start the modding process, it takes over and the PMS sets in.

Me too, on the list. On one hand I don't want it to be quiter because it is loud and I like pulling up next to somebody at the light ans see the window go up. I get a smile ear to ear, but since it is hard on the injectors it is on the list.

I just finished mine too along with the HPx. I am not sure if it is any quieter yet but I haven't taken it out for a drive to make sure all the air is out of the system. I have the Early 99 though so I had to grind off some on the exhaust as noted. It wasn't to bad doing it with a Dremel. It makes me nervous having that fitting so close to the exhaust. Won't it really heat up the fuel being so close? Also as other have said, I am not sure why the rear line is so tight. I would think it should be about another inch longer so the line isn't pulled as tight. It is in the straightest line it can go and there is no other route it could take.

Everything else went fine, I hope no leaks develop.

Bellowed up pipes, in tank mods and a Frx made my truck sound like it was new. It's mostly noticeable at idle, but even on accelleration altho loud it doesn't clatter and nail, just sounds awesome like a good running diesel.

Biggest thing I've noticed so far is that the truck runs smooth and quiet when it starts to climb an overpass running about 35-40 mph. Before it would get real loud and rough as it headed up the overpass...

Not only the noise but I noticed with mine that the part throttle going slow control was way better! Before the mod the slow moving part throttle was more of an "on-off" switch. Since the mod part throttle is what it should be!

It isn't too bad if you have a Dremel and a reinforced cutoff wheel on it. If you put the fitting in the head, you can see the angle the fitting will be going on the collector. You then just come from above with the cuttoff wheel and run it up and down at the same angle the fitting is pointing. It creates a nice little dished out channel that allows the fitting to clear while turning. You don't go very deep so just get the channel established and then go a little deeper at a time until the fitting clears.

As you can see in the picture, this is a much cleaning result than the sample picture shows with the instructions.

Where did you route your line for the rear drivers side head? The directions say to have it in the valley which from most others pictures they don't seem to show it that way.

I made up my own hard lines. I made the feed go to the rear of both heads.

Nice job there. How long did all that take you to put together. Did you do any other mods while you had it apart?
