Pulling the Trans on the Ground. What Tools Needed?

Last time I did mine the bell housing bolts are 13 I believe, crossmember is a 18 and the bolts that hold the trans to the crossmember are 21 or 22. Just get an assortment of 10-22mm sockets and you will be good to go and don't forget your drive shaft are 12 point and there 12 mm. Not that bad of a project but if its your first trans I would say half a day going slow.

Just put my transfer case back in about an hour ago. drive shaft is 12mm 12 point. Coss member is 18mm. transfer to transmission bolts 13mm. I would think transmission to engine would be 13 also but I did not mess with them. Transmission jack is very nice. I probably would not do the job without it.

If the truck is on the ground you will need lots of ground clearance with the trans on the jack. Some long extensions for the top bolts on the bell housing are helpfull. IIRC the tc to flexplate are 9/16, but they are crush locked so you need new ones anyway. Buy 'em before so you know the size for sure. They are a dealer item. Good luck. Those suckers are heavy.

Bellhousing bolts are 19mm. I use a 3/4'' impact swivel socket. I have 1-1/2 and 2 foot 1/2'' drive extensions that I "double up" to get the upper ones. The crossmember bolts/nuts have tabs on them to keep them from turning while they are loosened. I have reused my torque converter nuts twice and just added a dab of blue loctite to them. No problems. Just be sure and torque them properly to 26 ft-lbs.

i had to take mine out twice recently so ive got it down pretty good.
took me an hour and a half the second time around.
torque converter cover bolts are 3/8" or 10mm, whichever fits better.
torque converter bolts are 9/16", there are 6. a small breaker bar works well. and youll need a 15/16" on a long bar so that you can turn the crank.
the drive shafts are held by 12 point 12MM bolts. so your gonna need a 12Point socket or wrench. also a small prybar to keep the shafts from turning.
there are 6 bolts holding the transfer case on, and those are 13mm
open-end wrench works best.
the cross member is mostly 15/16 with 2 or 3 3/4" mixed in. theres 7 bolts you have to take out there. gonna need a open end wrench and 1/2 drive ratchet.
ratchet straps come in real handy so you can sling it. (support the rear while you unbolt the bellhousing.)
bell housing is 19mm,, a swivel socket works well for the top bolts. your gonna need a long extension. at least 2ft. there are 6 bolts.
its nice to have a tranny jack or a small atv/motorcycle jack, that trans is heavy! 350LBS or more
most importantly, have someone to help.
