PIck up some anodize remover, remove anodize rinse then polish away. 1st repairing any dings or scratches. Very simple

 

i have used nevr-dull on my grill and on all the other parts i need polished for years. great stuff.

Perhaps this information is what can be gleaned from the fast dwindling stock of NOS grills available but most observers can see that the real trucks show a different story. Original 1968 trucks were supplied with one of two grills; white painted steel or anodized aluminum- without a groove stamped into the center horizontal bar. Three different grills were originally supplied on the 1969 trucks. White painted steel, plain anodized aluminum and anodized aluminum with red paint accenting the groove which was stamped into the center horizontal bar. This groove was stamped into all three variations of the 1969 grill. Seems funny, but the Ford parts books are really unclear and inconsistent about the details of these grills, no matter what change level is marked on the page.

C8TZ-8200-E .. Anodized Aluminum Grille ~ 1968 Custom Cab/Ranger, 1969 Custom Cab.

C9TZ-8200-A .. Anodized Aluminum Grille ~ 1969 Ranger only, but this is the same grille as C8TZ-8200-E except for the red paint in the center horizontal grille bar and black paint within headlamp area.

This info was not gleaned from any NOS grille, but from many moons ago, when these trucks were brand new, cuz I was a Ford partsguy 1962/97.

What were you doing in 1968/69 when these trucks were new?

 

Thanks but my only problem is removing the anodized finish so I can polish the grill. I think all the anodized finish
On the trim was for people that did not want to
go to the trouble of taking care of it . (Lazy)

 

An aluminum 1969 grill actually is different. It has a "grove", or "indention" if you will, the same size as the red stripe imprinted into the aluminum grill center horizontal bar where the red stripe is. So, even if the red stripe is removed you can still tell its a 1969 grill. A 1968 aluminum grill has a solid horizontal bar with no groove. I know, I have both.

 

Whatever the heck I was doing back in 1968/69 has absolutely no bearing on the present discussion. Did you even read the last line of my post? The physical evidence left behind by those who designed and assembled these trucks forty-odd years ago bears witness to the fact that the Ford parts books just aren't the holy scriptures you believe them to be, Bill, with every 'jot and tittle' lovingly preserved from generation to generation. Mistakes will appear in any human compiled publication, whether it's paper or Microcat. Being a Ford partsman and history nut myself, I own both original paper catalogs and disc editions from the years in question and I know they aren't consistent.
Your willingness to take the time to help guys with your knowledge is an asset to the forums, Bill, but I wish you could see what it does when you shout down all challenges with 'nyaa nyaa I've got the books and you don't'

Correct, thats why I say that you can not always go by a parts book, which I have told ND that several times. And again, the only reason Im saying anything is because I know the statement made about them being the same is WRONG, whether it was ND saying it or he got it from a parts book, nevertheless, its wrong information.

 

On second thought, maybe what I was doing in 1968/69 does have a bearing on this discussion...

I do apologize if I sounded harsh, Bill, but someone's messin' with you...

Here's an original '69 parts book page (with 'change level 6' printed at bottom), and it's not even correct...
unless they supplied it as a plain grill with a 'paint your own red stripe' option


As a footnote, I can see where this ''68 and '69 grills are identical' nonsense comes from: the same text quoted as proof shows up in my 64-72 master catalog 1975 final edition.

oven cleaner sometimes works. Getting the liquid plumber in the concentrate tablet form them making a brush on paste works as well.

Yes, There actually is a anodize remover . . . The real problem here is you do not listen or pay attention! I did a how to in one of my posts . . .

 

I watch any answers close and nothing has worked yet. Oven cleaner, and several other items I have tried and sent for polishing kit that was mentioned and was of no use.So the real problem is my not paying attn or not listening. The real problem I have no good answer . Perhaps it has not yet been sent !
