Solvent

Have any of you guys used kerosene for solvent? It is a lot cheaper than paint thinner but I wonder about its cleaning ability, aroma and harshness. I have used paint thinner for years but it is costing twice as much as kerosene.

Thanks
Steve

I think that kerosene is good for kerosene lamps .

Seriously, I think that it's a lot more flammable. I also know that it's generally considered pretty hazardous. You probably need a special container for it these days.

I wouldn't use it, but I'm far from an expert.

kero will leave an oil film on whatever it touches unlike paint thinner that evaporates clean.
i use acetone. it is a lot cheaper than paint thinner, and basically the same thing

Solvent?
As in a parts washer?

Tom,
I don't know about NJ, but up in these parts a gallon of paint thinner is ~$12, Acetone ~$20+

Kero stinks, I'd rather use ULSD.

Simple Green does a good job, I used it mixed 50/50 with water in my old parts washer. If you're worried about rust, give the part a shot of WD40 after rinsing off the excess cleaner.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think I will tay with solvent/paint thinner. I don't want an oil film on my parts.
