Catalytic Converter Stolen from my 7.3. What are my options?
Well I will be working on the cat soon! Had to go to the Legion today to catch up on the books and come out around 3 pm, and the truck sounded funny. Got to the bank, looked under neat and a three foot section was missing. Reported it for insurance but made some calls. You can't buy an OEM cat any longer. Now that said, in California only OEM are approved. So go figure. You also can't buy them from the wrecking yard, California law. So I don't know where they are selling them. Called NAPA and they don't show one either. Is the 6.0 cat the same? Those are available but know cross check number.

Well crap! Bad luck Chet.
What ya do is get yourself a sawzall with a metal blade and drive around at night until... j/k
Go to the CARB Aftermarket Cataytic Converter Database and plug in the truck details. 7.3 was not an option but several part numbers showed up for other engines. So no help there.
If nobody comes up with a good option I'd find the local smog referee and ask there. Maybe a regular smog station can look it up, but I'd never trust them unless they guaranty passing smog afterwards.
Best of luck buddy!

Not all 7.3's had cats.... I know your in Kommiefornia, but what do they visually check? Can you even drive Diesels in CA anymore?
I see Cletus suggesting swapping valve covers, is it that easy? I've haven't had to deal with Emissions testing or inspections before, but I know they vary wildly....
