99 E150 4.6L V8 stumbles on acceleration

I need help! I have a 99 E150 4.6L V8 conversion van. Initially, the van started like bucking almost when going up a hill. Of course I bought a Haynes manual talked with my ex and started out by replacing the air filter and fuel filter. Every time an incident occurred, the CEL would start blinking. I took it to AutoZone who checked the codes and they told me it was a misfire in chambers 2 and 4. I asked them what it could possibly be and they told me probably the EGR valve. Replaced the EGR valve, still the same problem. Was told spark plugs and wires could be the problem. Husband and father-in-law replaced the plugs and inspected the wires and I was told to bring them back because the wires were fine. It has now gotten to the point where it stumbles upon acceleration and there's definitely a lack of power. Most of the time if push down the accelerator a little more, it eventually stop. But if I have to slow down and then accelerate again, it starts again (and that happens a lot since I drive 25 miles one way to work...most of it highway during rush hour). So, because I am not made of money, I would really like to know what other possible things I could try to get this fixed.

OK, really I'm kinda begging for a little direction. Some years back I had an Aerostar that this forum helped me pinpoint a problem that my husband wasn't able to figure out. I had sold that vehicle and because I lived very close to my work, having a vehicle wasn't that important. In the last 6 years, I have had 4 different vehicles that have lasted anywhere from 2 days to 6 weeks. He will take the vehicle apart saying he knows exactly what's wrong with it and it never gets put back together. I don't work close to home anymore so being without a vehicle would be very detrimental to my career. So any ideas at all would be GREATLY appreciated

Hey JJ---sorry for my late reply---sometimes a post gets buried too quickly!

Maybe also post your questions to the V8 Modular Forum too---lots of smart guys there as well: Modular V8 (4.6L, 5.4L) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Thanks JWA.....I did figure out the problem. It seemed that every time I went to Autozone to get the parts they would give me the wrong ones.....until I figured out that I was giving them the wrong engine size. So after thinking about it, I checked my receipt for the spark plugs and sure enough....they were the wrong plugs. So I replaced the plugs with the correct type, replaced the serpentine belt and she was running beautiful again.....at least until 2 weeks ago....different problem for another thread though
