Now, I'm no force induction guru, but I had to school him a bit on forced induction on diesels. lol I told him about my mostly stock 97 can make close to 20psi. He about shat himself.

Told him he needs to do a diesel swap into that Iroc.
Actually if anyone should be feeling bad about boost numbers, it's us diesel guys. What is boost? It is a measurement of restriction. What makes power? The volume of air that is able to enter the cylinder. How much boost does it usually take for us to hit 600hp? 40-50psi? Yeah, the 2jz Supras are making 1000+hp with that kind of boost. LOL. It doesn't take but maybe 10psi or less in a SBF or LS to make 600hp.. Heck I just looked at a twin turbo Jeep SRT the other day. He was only running it at 6 psi and is around 600hp too. Makes you realize just how hard we are having to push to make power all because we rely on compression ignition and diesel fuel.

Also, those gassers have the capability of running huge amounts of boost, but they limit boost via wastegates to keep from exploding the engine into a million pieces. We just let the turbo build all the boost it can and don't usually have to worry about it with the correct turbo because we don't spin 6000+ RPMs.

Yeah, but they make horsepower through RPMs. And I'll bet we use less fuel at 600 HP than a 600 HP gas engine would.

Daily driving situation, probably so.. I'm just saying, we can't forget what gas engines are capable of in comparison to what we're dealing with when it comes to performance. They can do way more than us. Granted the performance world does cater to them and it's quite a bit cheaper, so more R&D gets done as more people are buying parts. If we had the parts availability, prices, and R&D that the gasser world has, we'd be a lot farther in the game. LOL It makes me sad and makes me want to play with gassers again.

Guess I kinda have the best of both worlds, as I intend to play with the gasser 1/2 ton this fall/winter a bit...and the diesel...my wallet hates me and wants a divorce but that's a whole other problem. lol

It's not a bad problem to have. My wallet hates me, but my house has gobbled enough funds already to build a competitive drag truck. But I digress.

On a different note, I stopped by my friends real quick to take a look at his car. It looks like his brand new AMG Benz has smoked a turbo. Less than 2k miles. I said, well they'll cover that as I got into my 200k mile truck with the stocker still kickin!

Yeah, just looking at some house projects now too. Gotta get a couple retaining walls built before winter - got some sluffing off of a hillside happening and when wet weather gets here to stay, it won't be pretty. Good thing is I can build that stuff myself so it's just material costs.

Sucks to be him with the new Benz with a smoked turbo. Mine's doing fine too at 266K....

Awesome! I totally forgot about that. I'll get things going asap.

Sheriffs deputy actually just came by and gave me "evacuation orders". Doesnt mean a whole lot. The wind shifted today and theyre worried about embers coming down. The fire is still about 10 miles out and my entire property is green. I'll worry when I see flames over the mountain.

Sheesh, Rick. Hope you stay safe from that mess.

You know, I was having this conversation with a buddy last night that for all the cold we see here in the winter Ohio isn't a bad place to live. No wildfires, no earthquakes, only an occasional tornado, no hurricanes, no bugs as big as your hand, no poisonous snakes, and nothing in your back yard that is liable to eat you! I guess it's just not too exciting, lol.

Correction on a few things Mr Nate. We DO have a few poisonous snakes and NE Ohio actually has quite a bit of seismic activity. It's just not that powerful.

And yes, stay safe out there Rick.

You missed the point Todd. I was trying to justify our 8 months of winter.
