Careful there, I'm not sure I would use SS as the gold standard for retirement income, lol. Let's try one that has a positive interest rate, or at least lets you break even and get out of it what you put in (neither or which SS does).

I'm not sure exactly where your coming from. Social Security isn't what I was talking about. Yeah, if I was your age, I wouldn't be counting on SS. Its full of gov IOU's. So far, as far as I know, the RRRB (rail road retirement board) fund has not been touched, but I'm not holding my breath. A lot of people don't know it but RRRB is completely separate from SS. After ten years on the RR, all previous SS donations are put into RRRB. This separate retirement account was created over 100 years ago. I don't get SS because I'm in RRRB.

My tank leak was under the straps that hold the tank up. Water and salt rusted it out.

I didn't mean to bust your chops about SS Glenn. Sorry if I came off that way. I was more or less speaking in jest that the current SS system is just another way for the government to delay its responsibilities onto the future generations. It's down right immoral in my opinion and believe me, if I could opt out of it, I would do so in a heartbeat. Heck they can keep everything I have paid in so far, just quit taking my money and throwing it down the drain while telling me how you know what's best for me. I'm pretty sick of it. Ah well, I'm bordering on talking politics in an truck forum, lol. Even if this is the off-topic thread that's generally considered bad etiquette. Better get back to common ground.

That tank looks pretty bad. It's probably a good thing you're swapping it out. Kind of makes me wish I could find a way to keep all that crud from collecting up in there. There's a guy here locally that does rustproofing that he guarantees for life. I'm really tempted to start saving to have him spray "The Big Dog". Last time I talked to him he was going to want close to a grand to do it though.

No, No, you didn't bust my chops, LOL Like you say, it borders on the big P that we shouldn't talk about. For years I said the same thing, let me invest my own money. 'They' take your money and you never know if your going to get it back. I feel sorry for our kids, their kids and their kids. They will never pay off the debt! I'll shut up now, LOL

Edit: A grand is a lot of money, it must be a lot better then zeibar or whatever its called.

I've never seen the Ziebart stuff done on a vehicle that I have been able to look at up close but this guy does a really thorough job. It took him 3 days to do a Ranger I had about 10 years ago and that thing still looks like a new truck. The guy does an acid bath of some kind to neutralize the rust, then washes, lets it dry then applies this waxy stuff that almost reminds me of Cosmoline. He drills holes in the doors and sprays the stuff up inside all the trouble areas too. Guarantees the stuff for life, all you have to do is bring it back yearly for an inspection and even then the only thing you pay for is any material he uses to touch up. It's probably money well spent, but I'd much rather spend that money on other things, even if it were for the truck (injectors anyone?).

I don't know for sure what I will do or where I would get the funds to do something like that, but I sure want to do something to keep this truck around for a long, long time. These things are getting hard to find in good solid shape and I have a great foundation in this one. I don't want to look back later on and feel like I just used the truck up, you know? Ah, well... it's only money right!?

He definately is going to have to sweeten the deal since I'm not sure I could replace this truck seeing how many people are looking and not finding anything comparable.
He's full of it if he said the bow is worth that. When they buy them, bows lose their value quickly like a car. You can usually count on a bow being worth half after a year because a guy that buys a high end bow is an avid bow guy and so he uses it a lot. Your truck is priceless remember!!

That guy does have another video on how to make a 7.3 compression testing gauge rigging it up from some couplers and a $30 kit for something else.

It seemed to work well in his video. What does a normal compression testing kit cost? Todd??
