Big Blackie - The Build
#781
Yes, the truck did officially get sold to the high bidder on eBay. He only just flew in yesterday and is now back on his way home to south Texas.
I'll leave it up to him whether he wants to get online or not, but as for me this is the end of my journey with this vehicle. It was a lot of fun and I learned an incredible amount about trucks, engines, and life. The support from the guys here was really great and I want to thank everyone who gave me encouragement and advice over the years, I really appreciated it.

Thanks for allowing us to be a part of the journey. This build has already been very useful to me and will continue to be. Im happy its in south texas even though i didnt win it. I live in the rust belt so it wouldve had to see salt only on super blizzard days. Are you thinking of another build perhaps in the future?

It's unfortunate that this thread is just like most other such multi-year threads in that many of the old pictures no longer work, ishouldntwonder.com doesn't seem to be real happy at this point.
But it was still cool to watch its evolution over the years, thank you for creating this thread, Luke. I should probably check out the sister thread on Gary's site....

Chris the pictures still work for me, I've paid to keep that domain name registered and hosted for all these years just for the purpose of keeping this thread functional for those who come later. I do notice that the new forum software won't let you click on the picture to view the larger size, but I guess that's a minor inconvenience.
Does anybody else still see the pictures? Everything from the very first post in 2012 still looks fine to me.
The thread on Gary's site was just a for-sale notification, there's no new info there. This is still the repository of all information here.

Big Blackie's new home
Well guys it's been a long time since I posted an update but the time has come, and the update is, Big Blackie is for sale.
Over the last six years I spent many tens of thousands of dollars on the restoration of this vehicle, or in other words, an amount which I figure is the cost of your standard mid-life crisis. Having survived that more or less it is now my turn to shuffle off into old age while there is yet enough time to write my memoirs. This was a great project which transformed me as a human being and also turned my hair grey, but the project is done and I find that I really don't need an enormous show-quality pickup truck in my life, as much as I do love her. This truck is unique in all the world as are all the other trucks each of you own, which is why we love them so much. But nothing and no-one is ours to keep forever.
I will be placing an ad on eBay shortly but I am still organizing the last bits of documentation and getting final things ready, in the meantime I decided to give you FTEers advance notice in case some rich person wants to make me an offer ahead of time. When the eBay listing is up I will post back here with the link.
Thanks to all those who followed along and gave me encouragement over the years. I will leave you with some eye-candy.
