When I first bought in Nov or Dec the truck the speedo was wonky and the abs light was on. Well I replaced the FOMOCO oem VSS and it fixed the issue mostly. It started happening again and I started investigating. I found wires that were chaffed and corroded further up the wire. I stripped it and cut most of the corrosion out and then sandpapered the end. I butt connected the two wires together and taped the hell out of them. Well today I fired up my truck and noted that the speedo and abs light were on despite being fine for months.
Is there anything I should investigate further? I'm guessing my vss is dirty and perhaps the wires came loose some how.
Well guys I pulled the VSS. It had some metal shaving film on it, but its been that way since I got it. So I suspect after a period of months accumulation it messed with the vss signal. It would mean to me the tone ring is on the way out which will not be fun to replace. I really need to pop that back cover and spray everything with brake cleaner and get some new synthetic in there. Fluid is pretty dirty and the cover doesn't look likes it has been popped for a while.
