Thumbs down Not impressed with my new 4" exhaust

Well I just had a 4" diamond eye turbo back exhaust system installed on my 01 F-250 PSD. I'm honestly not that impressed with the new performance. I asked the place that installed it what size my stock system was. They said 3.5". I hear everyone on this site say how nice the 4" system is but can a 1/2 inch really be that much of a difference. The new system sounds the same as the stock and I don't notice any horsepower gains. The main reason I upgraded was for towing with a chip. It seems to me that my stock 3.5" system would have been sufficient. Did I waste my money???????????

Not impressed with my new 4" exhaust

Two questions:

1. Is the chip installed?
2. Did they install the downpipe as well?

Not impressed with my new 4" exhaust

I have not installed the chip yet and it was a full 4" exhaust including downpipe that I put on. I just feel like there is not a big difference between 3.5" and 4". When I install the chip I want to keep my EGT down but will a 1/2 inch really make a difference????? I guess I just feel like I wasted my money.

The exhaust pipe from the turbo to the bottom of the truck.

Not impressed with my new 4" exhaust

I relpaced a 3.5" exhaust system on my '96 with a 4 inch system recently, and the difference is noticeable, particularly with the turbo spool up, and the exhaust temperatures. I paid $300 for the system, and think it was a very worth while modification. I needed to do this a long time ago, but only just got round to it. I now have the full benefit of all the other modifications this truck of mine has.

Ryanben, the primary benefit of the larger exhaust is to allow you to make more power via, chip/turbo/whatever mods and keep the egts under control. The larger pipe helps move more air through the engine.

Typically, with a chip, your EGTs will go up, but after you install a 4" exhaust, your EGTs will go back down. So basically, your exhaust will allow you to make more power and torque safely. Yeah, what davhut said .

With 30% more pipe area and no changes on the motor what did you expect?
Get the chip then come back with your results and EGT readings.
