A very strage no start

Well my truck left me stranded at a park today. Hop in, key goes in the ignition, truck powers up but will not start. Run to auto zone and get a new lock cylinder and same problem, key turns all the way but no start, also truck will no longer power down, even with the key cylinder removed the truck stays on.

I will be disconnecting the chip in the AM however after that I am stumped

Any recommendations?

Sure sounds like a bad ignition switch, or perhaps a problem in the mechanical linkage between the lock cylinder and switch.

It's definitely the mechanism after the ignition cylinder as a new replacement cylinder functions the same as the original. The strange part is the truck cannot be turned off ( engine not running ) I had to disconnect the batteries . The dash powers up as normal but can't remember if I got a WTS light

I agree you should check the switch, not the cylinder.

There should be a switch on the steering column Walt. Double check there.

Ok just came in from working on truck, it continues to not crank. More info:

Chip has been removed

Tach sweeps and WTS light is coming on

No codes

OD light turns on if I push the button

As soon as the batteries are hooked up the dash/lights turn on even with the ignition cylinder removed

Wheres the switch on column and what am I checking for there??

The switch is on the passenger side of the steering column. Here is the wiring diagram (from a 1999 manual):

I don't know if the ford mounts are kinda the same as Chevy switches on the steering column. But on the chevys. the switch has a slotted holes to adjust the electric switch position. if the screws come lose on the electric switch, it will move up the column and the rod from the key-switch will not pull or push the electrical switch to the right position
