Trailer brakes

How much voltage should there be at the trailer plug for the trailer brakes. Im getting about 1.9.with the brake pedal depressed truck running. First time Ive ever had to diagnose trailer brakes, but that seems a little low.

Good question, never actually checked mine and I haul a construction trailer frequently, it has it's own battery, I test that occasionally, I figured that actually ran the trailer brakes, bumping your thread, now I'm curious

Modern controllers are inertia-activated. While parked only minimal voltage goes to the brakes. You have manual override on the controller that will let you set full voltage. Read the manual.

I have read "some" of the manual.LOL I was just having a little trouble with the trailer brakes and was kind of surprised to see only 1.9 vdc at the truck plug. Is that low while parked?

Sounds about normal. I never measure that, but have feeling that even the controller says those are volts, it has to be setting numbers. The wheels on my empty trailer locks at 4, what I don't think would happen with actual 4 volts.

Most controllers that show numbers are showing voltage output to the brakes. At least the Prodigy brand are. Like someone said, modern controllers are inertia based. When parked, they're going to put out a minimum voltage to maintain parking. The manual slider will cause additional voltage.

I'm guessing this is the Ford integrated controller? If so then yes, it will put out very little voltage at idle. Check this link:https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-ford-ibc.html

Check it w/ the slider activated. Are you having a braking problem? The integrated controller is tied to the ABS brakes and functions differently than old style controllers.
