Spent a few hours yesterday installing a fuel tank pickup / pre-pump filter kit in my 99 F350. I ran into some minor snags and wanted to share how I worked around them.

The truck is a DRW cab-chassis with a steel tank:


The factory fuel supply hose was kinked and missing the protective loom:


After disconnecting the fuel lines, the pickup assembly was removed by unbolting the flange (no lock ring):





The factory depth of the pickup umbrella was measured, and the new fuel return and pickups were installed:







Here is the modified pickup ready to be re-installed in the tank:



First snag, the new fuel return line was a little too long and hit the inside of the tank:



That was fixed with a tubing cutter:



Second snag, the frame rail was about 1/2 inch taller than the supplied filter mounting bracket. That was fixed with some uni-strut and a beam clamp:









I haven't done any extensive driving yet, but on a quick trip the engine is noticeably quieter and the fuel pump doesn't sound like a straw sucking soda any more.
