FICM Connector Harness

Recently I had my truck ('03 F350 DRW) at a Ford dealership for a repair while on vacation. The service manager said I should replace my FICM wire harness as it is old.
My truck runs fine and engine compartment is clean, should I replace the FICM wire harness as a preventantive measure?

Do any of you guys replace the FICM wire harness at certain intervals?

I know the retention clips get brittle and some talk about wiring being chaffed, but no to replacing at x milage. Spend your money on other mods...

Was the repair something that required removing the FICM? If so, he may have been hinting that they either broke, or found broken, the connector clips on the bottom of the FICM. It is very easy to do, even for the experienced. Those buggers are tight the first time you pull them.

You can find a thread or two around here with ideas for keeping the connectors engaged when the clips have been broken.

It is also possible that they saw the beginning of chafing, which the '03 is known for. All together I think it might be worth having checked to see what they were concerned about.

/agreed. I wouldn't mess with it if there is no chaffing and if the clips are in good shape still. If the clips HAVE been broken, many have just used those heavy duty HVAC-style zip ties to hold the plugs into the FICM as an alternative to picking up a new harness.

Good luck!

Moe - now that quite a few years have passed by on the early model year 6.0's - is there anything else that you recommend "up-selling" (ie 150k or 200k mile wear items)?

My Question is: Can the FICM be relocated to a more intelligent place?
