How much you guys paying for remote start?

I was quoted $440 over here in Austin for the pager version. Seemed a little steep given I thought you could buy them for around $150 on EBAY. Are they difficult to install?

i have remote starts on everything i own, refuse to get into a cold truck. not to mention its illegal to leave a car/truck running with the keys in it here.

on my excursion i have a viper 5901 remote start/alarm. this is one step below the top of the line viper offers. i've had about 4 times now the alarm with 2way paging has alerted me to somebody trying to break into my truck. the range is one mile on the remote and it works wonderful!

i had my guy install it, also added a few extras you can get. total was $700 installed

most of the price on one of these is for the labor of install, they are not easy nor fun to install. i wire trucks for my work and get pretty involved..but i still will not touch a remote start.

good luck with your search.

i wont work an outside job thus would not take one..simple enough.

i've always had a remote start since i started driving, after having one you will not want to live without it. when its -30 out and your leaving work, its nice to let it idle and warm up for 30mins before. windows are all thawed out and shes putting out heat.

1) always good to let a diesel warm up and I could start while gathering my stuff in the am.
2) It's like the Serengeti in Austin for about three months, I could have the truck engine warmed up and and the interior cooled down for the afternoon commute.

The vipers are good brand, with great customer service. Mine quit working, & bb fixed it for free! Lifetime warranty regardless of owner...

I'm just saying you could go start it and come back later to drive it. I guess if I was rich I might go the easier route. It's kind of like the people that but Cadillacs and have all the extras put in (that eventually quit and cost a bunch to fix.)........whatever.

Oh really? We get 103" of snow downtown per year and I am still running the snowmobile this year. I just jump in, start it, put my knit cap and fleece gloves on, and drive for 2 miles before it starts to heat.....no big deal. Depending on my mood; I might trudge through the snow, start it, and go back inside for 15 minutes.

$440, That's about what mine cost and it's worth every penny when it's 100+ outside.

it depends where you live its not a rich or poor thing. here your hard pressed to find a car/truck that does NOT have a remote start. hell the '98 explorer i just picked up has one on it.(putting a nicer one on it). i've never had any issues with mine, my family has been using them since the early 90s on fords with no issues.

i park in the garage overnight but before i leave work or the mall or whatever i make sure my truck is warm. or on cold days i never shut it off..leave it running everywhere i go when its -15 or below.

also many citys have laws making it illegal to leave a car/truck running with keys in it(locked or not). this is true for my city where in the winter time cars warming up are a very easy target for thieves.

btw, 134.5" of snow officially this year and over 200" where i'm at
