Found a 65 F100 I'd like to buy but need help
Thanks for any help you can offer. I'm about to purchase 65 F 100, and it needs work. But its a 4x4 and has a everything i have on my wish list. Can anyone tell me what i should be looking for and what would make me not purchase the truck. I'm not a mechanic but have worked on my own car's and trucks when necessary and if I felt i could handle the repair. Additionally, I was able to get the vin# and I entered the # into a google search and found out the owner posted on this site in august of 2011. Numberdummy (this guy knows his stuff) decoded the vin and gave great info. But, because I'm new to this site, i don't know how to send messages to members (or even if it is possible for a newby to send messages). I live in Seattle, Wa and Numberdummy suggested getting in touch with a member user name Camperspecial65, who may know of where to obtain parts and or service in the Seattle area. Any help getting in touch with these members would be of great. Thanks

thanks for the quick reply. Wanted to ask if you could give me you're opinion about a 65 f100. Vin #F11YR789780. The body needs work, but it starts and sound strong. But has the following problems we know about (meaning there are problems I haven't found yet, probably).
1) Floor of the cab is totally rotted. Passenger side floor has a sizable hole in it.
2) E-brake is totally gone
3) Leaks oil from the oil pan and from the 4x4 box on the front axle. He puts in another quart every two tanks
4) Gas Gauge doesn't work
This is my first truck of this age and don't want to get in over my head. don't want a show truck, just want a good strong engine, brakes ECT.. Good bones. But I'm little concerned I'm not aware of the cost to bring something back to good working order. Can you give me you're opinion? thanks

Rains like Billy B. Gesus in the PNW, but trucks that have spent many years east of the Cascades, may not be as rusty, cuz it doesn't rain anywhere near as much, so is scrub desert.
The fuel gauge not working could be caused by: Defective: dash gauge, ICVR (Instument Cluster Voltage Regulator), in-cab fuel tank sending unit, but...
The first thing I would look at is the fuel sending unit's float (came with the assembly, also available by itself).
The float is made from two pieces of copper soldered together. Solder breaks down, gas seeps in, float settles to the bottom of the tank.
Take the sending unit out of the tank, remove the float from the arm, shake the puppy. Hear gas sloshing around inside? If so, it's time for a new float.
COAZ-9202-B .. Fuel Sending Unit Float / Available from Ford.
Applications: ALL 1957/79 FoMoCo Passenger Cars/Trucks, 1961/79 Econoline, 1966/79 Bronco
MSRP: $15.94 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor partsguyed.com price: $11.47.
Parts Guy Ed = Horizon Ford Truck Center in Seattle (Tukwila) WA / Located on International Blvd. / AFAIK: Discounts on parts are only available online.
Don may have the E brake parts used, Don also has the Ford truck parts catalogs, so knows what fits what.
The rust will be a major factor, IMO, with that much = PASS. These trucks are not rare, look for another. Don may know of some.

Thank you Bill for just the information I needed. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I understand about passing because of the rust or the amount of.... Should I consider purchasing the truck, if I were able to only a few hundred? Wanted to make sure you had all the facts. Thanks
IMO = Pass.
If you want a 4WD, suggest you contact FTE member Buzz44 for info. Vic lives in Colbert WA, knows all about 'em.
