Problem with stuff like that is every piece of rubber on it is rotting from age by now and if it sat for a LONG time then various other items will have worn by lack of use. Pop bought an olds 88 like that once, thing was cherry but the above problems plagued it till he sold it off.

I really enjoy seeing trucks like that. I'd take it over a new truck too. I do know what you mean about seals etc. I'd just repair those things. It wouldn't bother me.

with only 27,000 miles, i would run away real fast from that thing. it will beed a new engine due to cavitation within a year. due to having 22 year old coolant without additives in it.

I thought the actual breaking down of the cylinder walls only occurred due to the engine running, though, not just sitting. Even if it had NO SCAs for the entire 27K miles, would that really be enough to make cavitation an issue? The rule of thumb I always read on cavitation was that, so long as preventive measures were taken before 100K miles or so, you're fine.

Correct, cavitation can only occur on a running engine. The shock wave passing through the cylinder walls creates tiny air pockets in the coolant and the constant collapsing of the air pockets on the cylinder walls slowly eroded them from the coolant side into the combustion side.

My parents '93 IDI has 57,000 and I have put an oil cooler and new bed on it from rust, the new bed is rusting again, the rear leafs all rusted apart and both rear leaf hangers rusted through. Theres nothing cool about low mileage trucks.

nope.
at the old job, we had 4 89 to 92 trucks that all lost engines due to cavitation due to no SCA's in the coolant with less than 30,000 miles on them.
