my 98 4x4 with a 4.0L auto trans wont go into gear when i put it in forward or reverse ? the truck ran fine and it just wend out .

 

If everything shifts fine as far as when its driving then youll have to check you shifting linkage from the dash to the tranny

 

at a stop there is nothing when you shift from park to forward or to reverse

 

Yeah i think its just the linkage, get someone to shift the truck wile you look under neath, if you see that cable moves the lever on the tranny every time the shifter move into a different slot then the problem might be internal, but if it dosnt move then it could be the shifter having problems, so just give the linkage a check

 

the trans went out needed a new one
