Well, it happened. While out off roading with my wife, I shut the truck (2007 F350 6.0 PSD, 65000 miles) off after about 45 minutes of running and it would not hot restart. Let it set about 2 hours and it would cold restart, no issue; got it back down the hill and shut it off, same symptoms. Crank, but would not quite run enough to idle, like a fuel starvation issue. It did not set a code, I checked with the SGII, and with an Innova OBD2 reader. I managed to get it to a local diesel shop and he checked it with his code reader and all it showed was a speed sensor problem. Hmmm...
So! He checked further and it cold started fine for him but as it got warmed up, the ICP reading fell off and hence power and ability to idle. This appears to be a pretty good indicator of a dummy plug O-ring or other HPO type of issue. Am I barking up the right tree?
We pretty much ignored the speed sensor thing, I figured that was ancillary to the main issue of not starting when hot. I'll program the SGII and recheck. Right now we're getting the rocker covers off and checking the dummy plugs.
thanks Blade.
Don't forget about the STC fitting....your right in that range when they seem to fail. All the ones I've seen reported as failing on here seem to go somewhere around 60k to 80k miles. If it was me...your going to have the top of the engine apart to fix one leak anyway...mine as well get all of the known issues (standpipes, dummy plugs and STC). Yes, it will cost more than just fixing the one, but once your done...your done with the '05-'07 HPO system "hot start" issues.
