My last 04 DID sound like a diesel, my current one does not. just youtube 5.4 cam phaser to know what to look for. Dont mistake it for loud fuel injectors (these trucks have loud fuel injectors)

Other than that, alot of people get alot of miles out of them. When i was looking here were my things to look for as I read they are notorious problems on these trucks

1)Cam phaser diesel noise
1200 dollars in my case. 74000 miles.

2)Exhaust manifold leaks (which I now have), mostly on passenger side. you can tell if you hear a ticking noise on acceleration
Dealer fixed for me. Mine is an 04. I bought it last July for 17000$ 73000 miles.

3)Bed shake, make sure it doesnt shake too bad going down the highwy at cruising speeds (my last one did, drove me crazy)
At 60 mph a vibration that causes bed shake. Have not addressed. Just stay above or below the shake zone.

4) Make sure all power windows work, regulators suck in these trucks (just replaced one) No trouble there yet

5)Tranny shudder - almost every F150 i drove had a slight shudder when releasing pedal and reapplying it
I am blaming my warped rotors. Not sure what this would feel like.

6) If buying from a dealer, MAKE them change spark plugs before buying. If not it sucks and cost alot to have to change. just google 04 f150 spark plug issue (the plugs are notorious for seizing in the heads)
500 dollars out of my pocket.

Other than those few items, these trucks are great and not all of them get these issues, but after reading up on the forums, these are the most common issues to look for
If I didn't like it so much the above issues would be a deal breaker. But once they are fixed I am still driving a good looking Ford pickup, and not some other unpleasant looking brand!

2006 SuperCrew FX4 with 3.73 gears, 2 adults, 1 kid, toolbox with various recovery/fix-it stuff.

before blower
12.5 city....it went up/down....but pretty consistent
18-20 highway....I drive nice and use cruise control

after blower
12.5 city with tons of full throttle action
no idea about highway

if you are a run and gunner on the highway, you can expect 14-16 mpg easy. carry a bunch of crap in the truck...same story. oversize the tires from the factory 32" height...again, huge MPG hit.

you'll be annoyed at how much lower the MPG's are for the gas vs. what you currently get with a diesel

the 5.4 3v is a powerful motor, but it isn't helped by the 6,000 lbs weight of a SuperCrew 4x4 F-150

I'll never go back to a F-150. I loved mine with the supercharger and the leveling kit....but I've seen the light

Yeah diesels and gassers are two completely different animals. My old 7.3 was super reliable and felt as if it would pull the hoover damn down untill it hit 180k. Then things started going south and fast. Needless to say, I still loved it and would love to have it back but the cost of maintenance and the fact that it was just falling apart made me sell it. I could have easily dropped 5-6 grand into it and had a brand new truck but that just wasn't in the cards at the time. My f150 may not get as good of gas mileage as my diesel did, but it is still a hell of a lot cheaper to keep it on the road.

Oh and tylus you may be regretting that statement about seeing the light when that 6.blow your driving starts to dollar you to death...lol...sorry I just had to say it being a 7.3 guy myself.

Maybe

She has <13,000 miles at moment. I'm pretty risky

I honestly wouldn't be adverse to popping a HG right now so I could justify studding to the wife and then upping the boost and a SRL+ tune

08 F150 FX4 5.4 liter 3:73 gears and 275-60R15 tires and im from Canada. A week ago on a 100 klick hwy jaunt i got 10.6 l/100km or 26.65 miles per imp. gal or 22.2 us mpg so im very pleased (scangaugeII mileage) Its set for tire correction from the gps. Usually i get around 11.5 l/100km on the hwy and abt 17.5 l/100km or 14ish to 20ish usmpg. That beats the old truck....92 F250 obs that got 10 mpg us.
