John Deere D140 riding mowers

Does anybody own one of these? I'm wondering if you've had any problems with yours. I know they have a briggs & stratton engine but is it the intec or platinum series engine. I got a Husqvarna that lasted 5yrs before the motor burnt up and it's a intec. I'm thinking about buying a D140 and was wonder how ggod they are.

The D series was made to compete with box store lawn mowers. It has a cheaper built frame and cheaper components. The X300 series mowers are $4-500 more and they are a legitimate John Deere mower. They have a fully boxed frame, engine from Kawasaki which is way better IMO. Save the money and buy a 300 series.

I have a John Deere LA145 lawn tractor. I bought it two years ago at Home Depot for $1999 shortly after we moved into our new house. The D140 and the LA145 are very similar. Both have Briggs motors and hydrostatic transmissions.

I have a little more than an acre of land that I take care of. I use the JD for mowing the front lawn only, once a week during peak season, once a month in the off season. The lawn is about 5800 sq ft. For the rear, I use a Troy Bilt 48" mower. The only reason I use two different mowers is because I am kind of picky about my grass. I do not want grass, weeds, and other things from the back half being transfered to my perfect lawn out front.

So far the JD hasn't given my any trouble. It is garage kept under a cover and is pretty much babied though. The Troy-Bily, while also garage kept, lives a much tougher life. The back acre or so is brutal. Rocks, roots, brush, uneven ground all take their toll on blades.

I need to change the oil on the JD this weekend. If I find anything amiss I will be sure to post.

Here's mine:
