2001 F350 Doggie....
Hi guys....I'm new to this site along with owning a diesel. Bought one as I drive out west to the mountains for sled trips. Was told the 7.3 were great motors and hade plenty of power. First trip the tranny went out on it. The previous owner had it rebuilt by DD Tranny shop out of Farimont MN. It only had 20000 miles on it when it went out on me. So I had a guy out of Spearfish SD rebuild it. Yeah....we won't get started on DD Tranny!! But my question is to me it seems like it don't have the power like it should. Truck has 155000 miles on it. Seems like the turbo boost is off or something. Is there anything I can check before I have to bring it in and pay the bucks for it? Thanks.....John

Welcome to FTE. Sure there are things you can check, but first tell us how you're driving it. In the mountains pulling a 15,000 lb trailer, or just driving around on flat ground empty? When you say low power, do you have anything to compare it to, like having driven another 7.3, or is this just a general statement that it feels like a dog?
We'll help you diagnose it, we just need to figure out if you've got a problem or just need to add some mods.

I bought a 0-30 PSI gauge at Ace Hardware (it included a plumbing fitting) and some clear hose. For $20, I had a discount boost gauge that has helped me find and seal a number of boost leaks. My stock '01 isn't what I'd call 'fast' - these trucks weigh a ton, but when the boost comes up, it scoots over the hills of Colorado with ease.

John, you haven't checked on your post? I'll get you started with some must do items unless you know for sure they have been done. 1. change your oil&filter. your injectors use high pressure crank case oil to fire. A lot of us use synthetic, but conventional will do. make sure it is diesel oil, 15/40 con. 5/40 syn. filter is motorcraft FL1995. All available at wall mart for a decent price. 2. replace your air filter so you don't have any restrictions there. 3. replace the fuel filter. see if you have a fuel bowel cap that is separate from the filter. If so that is OEM and get an OEM filter. If the filter and cap are one piece, just get a filter from a parts store. Its good enough for now.Get this done and let us know how it runs. its maintenance you have to do anyway and helps eliminate a few things.

Thanks
Sorry guys as I have been working a ton lately. Thanks for all the input. The oil has been changed on it. Same with the fuel filter. When I drive it I can feel at times it gets an increase in power. Kinda like if it got more boost. My gas 6.0 Chevy I feel pulled the 4 place trailer way better. I couldn't imagine pulling 15000lbs behind this truck.
