F350 Diesel MPG Question

F350 Diesel MPG Question
I know this has probably been beat to death so I apologize but just have to ask. I have a new F350 4x4 3.73 gears with automatic it is a long bed, crew cab DRW 6.7 diesel and am wondering what kind of MPG I should be seeing. In 1400 miles it has average 13.5 MPG. I don't seem to be able to get more that 14.5 or 15 highway. I am talking 65 to 70 mph level ground. I am content with these figures but I hear others talking about 18 to 20. Oh, and I am driving it really easy.
Thanks in advance

Well, you have a heavier truck than mine a longer truck than mine, lower gears than mine, but similar mpg --- on, and didn't catch it was a dually - one more strike on ya - it is a huge truck and I didn't expect much out of it because I got it to tow a big 5er...
I think the people that are saying more than 20 are probably resetting after they get up to hiway speed
but I will say that my mpg meter will indicate 20 every so often if I'm easy on it... but not as an average around town...

Wow, thanks for the fast replies. I will be happy with that mileage if it is normal. I bought the truck to tow a heavy 5th wheel. I have not yet taken delivery of the trailer. What kind of mileage might I expect to get towing 18k at 65 mpg?
I moved into this truck from a 1998.5 Ram 3500 DRW with 5.9 Cummins. Towing light, say 7K I would get between 9 and 13 mpg.
Again, thanks for the replies.

My new 2013 SRW with 2wd and 3.31 is getting about .5 to 1 mpg better on the highway than my 2011 eco 4x4 with 3.73
At 75mph I can get 18.5mpg, at 60mph I can get 21 mpg. So far these are for short trips- less than 80 miles total, small rolling hills of 1-3 degrees. Wind has been both with and against me.
Truck only has 600 miles on it. These hwy figures include warm up time.
Bad news is that city driving is worse with the ecoboost probably by 2 mpg. For one thing the 6.7 takes a lot longer to warm up to an efficient operating temp than the eco did.
Haven't got to tow with it but once so far so can't tell yet how the 6.7 will do compared to the ecoboost

Sorry to not Welcome you yet Arlan in Ari - So WELCOME to FTE !
you are in for a treat.... the 6.7 just loves to tow... get at least 500 miles on it,
then hook that puppy up... (I misread and thought it said don't tow until 1000, so I waited until 900 on my 2012 6.7 !)
towing mpg has too many variables - how your rv flows thru the air and weight and driving style...
if you are patient and let the gears work to get you up to speed, stay off the boost and all you will probably get the 9 to 11 range...
but on those - we're late - let's hurry runs have NO expectations as to mpg just enjoy the engine - tranny and go fer it !
Have you played with the gear display, manual tranny shifting, etc.. ? makes for a great tow to just set the cruise, put it in manual 6th gear and leave the drama behind
on edit - would be interested in your dodge to ford comparison ...

Comparing this new F350 to my D3500 is night and day. I put 230,000 miles on the Ram and 3 complete transmissions. And another couple of torque converters. Where to start. The Ram has injectors, and differnet turbo, 4 inch exhaust, a fueling box, gear vendors over/under drive, BD exhaust brake, 2 wheel drive low, a transmission smart controller and much much more. There is a steep learning curve involved to be able to drive the thing. I comes natural to me how but if and when I sell it, well that will be to the right person only.
The F350 is simple. Just drive it. Although the are both 1 ton DRW trucks the F350 is much larger.
