Rust repair project!!! Lots of Picture. My first attempt at body work.

Well I am sure a bunch of you guys have seen my posts over the last few weeks about my newly aquired 89 f350. And now that my parts finally came in I am going to be repairing the drivers side inner and outer floor pan, cab corner, rocker and patch some holes in the dump body.

Let me know what you think, this is my first attempt at doing some body work/ sheet metal repair.

I think I will end up painting the truck satin black or something similar. Its a work truck that I need to look clean and professional but its going to be hauling dirt, gravel, scrap and demolition material so it doesn't need to be showroom perfect.

Passenger side floor is solid. Most of what you see is dirt/sand only some surface rust bubbling through the paint. So weird that the sides are so different.

I'm sure it won't go too smooth....there is a LOT of damage as you can see. I will have to do some repairs on the cab mount also. But thankfully I only have one side that needs attention! The passenger side will just get some sanding and primer/paint on both top and bottom.

I think I am also going to dynamat the entire floor and up the back of the cab a little to help with the noise. I know just patching all the holes will help a lot, but its a very noisy truck with a big motor, holes in the floor and no headliner.

There is NO WAY I would be fixing that cab. It is so much easier and cost effective to put another one on.

As for BLACK, bad idea on your 1st body work job. Black shows EVERY minor imperfection. If I were you, I would be going with a nice WHITE, to hide everything

Im not looking forward to it..Im not a good fabricator. But with a little patience and some persistence I'll have it looking almost as good as new! My only saving grace is that everything is covered by the rubber floors expect for the cab corner so it doesn't have to be super pretty.

I thought about it, but i couldn't find a decent cab that wasn't just as bad. And the rest of the cab is in pretty good shape, fenders are good hood is good drivers door is good passengers door is OK and the roof and floors are good other than drivers side. I know a lot of guys would scrap it, but its hard for me to do work like taking off a cab by myself in my driveway. So here we are haha! Im sure half way through I'll regret it.

I would save that cab. It's just floor pans, rockers and cab corners pretty much. which isn't that bad. Good luck in your project though

radiator support is fine. Just replaced the radiator yesterday and everything was solid believe it or not. I figured it was going to be destroyed but it was totally fine. I am not sure what the deal was with this truck.....the entire body/frame and everything is really good, just the drivers floors is DESTROYED, really odd.

Some of the rust issues on here scare me. I commend you for being ambitious enough to try and repair it. If it were me I would just swap it. That cab is toast. It is not as hard as you think; especially being a regular cab. Have fun.

Not so odd.
For more than 20 winters the driver has been getting in with slush covered boots and the trucks heater has been melting all that salt and snow down to the flanged seam where the door seal sits.

It is a dump truck...
How often does a passenger ride in one?
You'll see that the drivers side door hinges wear out first too!

Speaking of... Be sure to check the door gap before welding that rocker all the way in.
I went so far as to tack a brace across the inside of mine, with the door closed first.
If the gaps are too far off there's going to be no way to adjust it after you're finished.

Ambitious project!
Good luck.

$200 bucks in parts and a day or so and its back on the road. That's my opinion. Its not that hard to replace floor pans, rockers and cab corners.

Have you found a source for the rearmost section of floor (where the seatbelt bolts through?
The panels I bought didn't have that, and I had to form my own.
Along with the stiffening rib between the drivers feet.
