Do you have a back-up system in place?
I think that the answer is NO.
I have two 1 TB external drives.
I back up to one of them every week.
Two means that even if one dies I have the other with a file loss of no more than 2 weeks.
I recently lost my internal drive and had to replace it.
I took the opportunity to start with a pristine install of Win7 pro.
No crapware at all.
OS, Browser, Antivirus. Firewall and some Diagnostics.
It's amazing how fast my computer is now and it's 6 years old.

 

I took IE9 back out, I didn't like it. I have firefox, chrome, and Ie8. I wanna be able to communicate with my peeps!!!!

 

I'll be down to smoke signals if my laptop craps out ...still haven't taken the desktop in.

Find a independent repair shop for the work.

Pretty sure the hard drive is taking a dump. Electronics aren't my bag, I work a lot better with bricks & rocks

And no, it won't go to the geek squad or anyplace like that.

 

Hell if it goes UPS it will be even more broken, like into pieces.
Just sent me the drive and mother board.
I'll stick them into a case I have laying around and check 'em out.
