I was stranded!!!
I pulled into a gas station after a whole day of running around to fill up the tank (I shut the engine off while fueling). After filling her up, I go to turn the key to start the engine and all I get is a "knock".
Make a LONG story short, it turned out to be the starter. After pulling out the old one, I saw that it basically puked into my bell housing! The washers that hold the bearings in were destroyed and the teeth on the starter gear were damaged. I don't know why this happened...I guess it just failed. I had to use a strong magnet to fish the little metal pieces out of my bell housing. I checked the flywheel and it's teeth were okay. New starter with a lifetime warranty fixed her up. Now she starts better than before.
