Im stumped 5.4 triton
OKay guys, I haven been on here in forever, and when I was it was in the diesel section, but Im a mechanic for a landscape company and I have this 2003 triton v8 with 115k on it, new trans in 2010 about 5-6k ago. This truck has me stumped
First off it runs fine no misfires, but it doesnt have power some times and some times it hits the rev limiter, it shifts all sorts of goof as if trans was slipping but fluid doesnt get hot, smell burnt. (ford oem trans when replaced) but it has like a "whistle" to it sometimes recently. and when you go to get into the throttle going down the highway it just like dies. and going up a hill from a strop, to the floor at 2300 rpm wont go any higher and does like 30 mph. Checked codes nothing. not one single code being found with my snap on scanner. performed a system check and still nothing. replaced fuel filter. no differance.
Any ideas???

Check the fuel pressure at the rail. I just went through something similar. Ended up being a fuel pump.
The dealer checked mine, said it should have 54 psi at the rail. Mine had 10.
Second pump on this truck, first one went at 75 thousand miles. It was run near empty to much and the pump stayed hot all the time. That is my theory on that one anyway.
The next pump was not a Ford part, I got it at a local parts store. I had too, I was towing a trailer to Florida when the original went out.
Here I am at 129 thousand miles and this will be the 3rd fuel pump this truck has needed, including the oem.
I would check for fuel, you would think if it were spark it would be showing a misfire in one of the cylinders.

Idk, someone smarter than I will have to chime in from here.
When my pump was going bad, you could not get it to rev high enough to get to the next gear. I was beginning to think it might be a torque converter on mine. Or it did start to cross my mind when their computers were showing nothing was wrong with it, and it should be running fine.
Fuel pressure test I would think would be an easy thing to check and cross off your list.
