Does anyone else have Soot / Carbon buildup on tailpipe of their 6.2L ?

I agree with him. With the pure gas you will get a little more soot. But other then that whip it off and get some chrome cleaner to get it back to shinny chrome. Oh yeah and have fun with your truck.

6.2 Soot
I have the same issue black thick soot inside the tailpipe. I have 8600 miles on it and use clean fresh gas from a private supplier. My fuel mileage is terrible down to 11mpg. I do have 35's on 20" rims. On the commute I get to full temp its 20 miles one way. Never seen soot on any of my gas vehicles and a new truck that only gets 11mpg..... I'm ready to give up on Ford.

For 35s on 20 inch rims, 11mpg is right on the money IMO. Depending on how heavy your foot is or if you have a aggressive tread tire, I don't see or understand how you would expect to get any better. Most of us with stock tires on 18 inch rims and 3.73 gears are lucky to get 14 around town....
Maybe take it in to Ford and voice your concern before bailing?

Something does not sound right here. I do not have soot issues with the 2012 F250. My smoke pipe does not have any of the sooty stuff like in the pics.
I think it is time for a trip to the stealer and a discussion with the service folks.
I don't think idling hAS A thing to do with it. Mine idles quite often when i leave the air run for the labs when parked in the summer.

THis is a really old original post but still relevant. I have the chrome package as well and all I do is use mine for towing and the tail pipe is black inside no question as you can get your finger black when you run it around the inside of the pipe. However I have no soot on the bumper. I figure the soot is from the fact the engine is working hard alot of the time and with the 8 to 9 mpg it's gonna make soot. Both my Hemi Dodges were the same and if I drove any of the 3 on a long highway trip with no trailer the pipe would and does start to clean up.

I know this is an old thread, but the OPs picture doesn't look like the tip is installed properly. You should be able to see the drain hole on the end of the tip. Looks like it is cover up with the exhaust pipe. Maybe it is holding dirty water and making a mess making it look worse than it is.
