47 Half ton Heater

Just bought a nice heater core off ebay and am looking for the heater switch.

I found a picture online can anyone confirm this is for the 3 door model heater?

Also where the heck does the switch mount?

switch mounts on a small bracket that mounts on the bottom of dash,
i think there is a cable type also that controls def or heat.
it hooks up were the two pipes are.
i may have a spare bracket i will check

Thanks sosotwo I could use that bracket if you have an extra. Im assuming the cable clears the passage to the ducts? I have no clue on assembly yet.

heater

Nice heater, there were various versions of this heater with the tubes coming out at different positions so be careful when you make your holes that the tubes do not bump into the fuel pump or some other area of the engine if you are not using a flat-head. There is a small plate that mounts to the edge or bottom of the dash that holds 2 *****, heater speed and defrost/floor cables. That switch is color coded to match the original wiring harness colors and or the new re-pop harnesses you can get from Macs.

Got to wire it up the correct way to get 2 forward and 2 backward speeds. Most of the other things related to that can be purchased from Macs.

Heater Controls Mounting

Marine1200

Here is a pic of the mounting bracket for the Heater & Defroster controls, over by the Steering column.

That is the correct Heater for your Truck, and I was jst installing my Heater when this pic was taken.

Just for what its worth to you on the mounting plate at the back of the Heater you will see 3 long threaded bolts about 3 inches in length. The correct one for the Truck will have the 2 bolts on the Passengers side comming through the firewall on the battery side, and the other just to the right of the oil filler at the rear of the engine. The Heater for the cars are just the opposite pattern. Same 3 door feature as shown, different mounting, then the later tuucks had the shorter bolts.

By the way that Heater Switch you have is a beauty nice original N.O.S. rare find.

So I purchased two heaters one specifically for the dash mount plate and **** pull wire and the other because it looked in AMAZING shape (Both turned out to be great buys). I was very surprised when I received the black one as the original wiring is still intact and the original paint still shines. I have not had a chance to test any of them but I was able to find a NOS fan switch for 75.00. I ordered a new defrost ****/vents/wiring from Macs now just have to order a 12v reversible motor. Anyone have any part #'s on a 12v replacement?

Truck Heater

For what its worth to you, try looking into an inverter which drops down the voltage, from the 12 you want to use to the stock 6 volt.

You will need a "big dog" resistor to drop from 12 to 6v, the small gauge droppers will cook in no time (as they generate a lot of heat). Something like this:

They are all over e-bay...

PS: The 6v that is "wasted" by the resistor is turned into heat, like having a BIG 6v flood light in-line with the heater which uses the same amount of energy as the heater motor.
