I was driving the truck 1984 f250 4.9 and the throwout bearing I guess it's called went.. The truck wants to keep
Going even though I have the clutch pedal
In and it squeals and it won't shift out of gear unless it's off and then I drove it home and I had to start it in gear an drive it home like that..Is it a throwout bearing?!
Inspect the clutch pedal, linkage, hydraulics if you have them. Start at the pad on the pedal, and work down to bell housing.
The squeal tells me it has to come apart anyway, but you need to make sure the clutch linkage is working. Trucks of that year have firewall flex issues, compounded by rust now after all these years. You must make sure your linkage/hydraulics aren't compromised by worn parts or flexing.
Having said all that, again, because of the squeal, I think this has to come apart.
ALL NEW components are in order, and if the rest of the linkage/hydraulics are good, you'll be back in business.
Sounds like carrier bearing failure. Also check plastick pushings in shaft holding clutch and brake pedals. Had that kind problem with one of my older fords.
